Washington Notes…
A note of appreciation is extended to
Lisa Haynes and Roger James Peltier, jr., who volunteered to serve on the
Conservation Commission. They will replace Rose Borgnis and William Cawley.
They were appointed at the August 4th meeting.
On Monday evening the select board accepted the
resignation of longtime highway department employee Walt Cummings. While we
regret his decision to leave we wish him well in his new position with the Town
of Peru. Walt's
many years of service to the town were applauded by all those in attendance at
Monday's meeting.
A big thank you to Craig Willis of White
Wolf Trucking and Excavating and Thom Delaney of Delaney Trucking and
Excavating for making the town their first priority and getting Frost Road
opened quickly. Not only was the road repaired but the emergency permit
filed with DEP also allowed us to remove the silt and debris from behind the
dam. The gate was also installed and the pond is now full.
The funds to pay for the repairs on Frost Road are
expected to come from our available Chapter 90 money (state funds derived
from periodic transportation bond authorizations and apportioned to communities
for highway projects). Repairs to other roads that were substantially damaged
by the storm including
Simmons and Cross Place were undertaken by our
highway department.

There are still positions on the Board of Health
and Conservation Commission that the board would like to fill, if anyone is
interested please let us know.
Currently
accepting applications for 3rd man laborer/operator: Hydraulic
License required. CDL license preferred. Application forms are available at the
DPW office 433 S. Washington State
Road. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. or
call 413-623-8383. Applications will be received until position is filled. The
Town of Washington

Mark Stinson from the DEP will be at the town hall
Tuesday August 26 @ 7 PM to present two mini-workshops. The first is the Forest
Cutting Practices Act and how it relates to the Wetlands Protection Act and the
second is How Close is too Close reviewing buffer zone projects. Free and open
to all who are interested.
The following articles were scheduled
to be acted upon at the August 18th meeting:
Article 1: To see if the town will vote
to rescind the prior action taken under Article 5 of the warrant for the Annual
town Meeting held on May 10, 2008
Article 2: To see if the Town will vote
to raise and appropriate the sum of $122,282.90 for general government accounts
to be appropriated in different ways (33 monetary adjustments listed in the
article)
Article 3: To see if the Town will vote
to rescind the prior action taken under Article 12 of the warrant for the
annual Town Meeting held on May 10, 2008.
Article 4: To see if
the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of $29,178.94 for
the health and safety accounts to be appropriated as detailed (13 monetary
adjustments listed in article) |
