Washington Cultural Council Seeks Funding Proposals
Proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, and science projects are due October 15.

The Washington Cultural Council has announced an October 15 deadline for organizations, schools and individuals to apply for grants that support cultural activities in the community.

According to a Council spokesperson, these grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities in Washington -- including exhibits, festivals, performances and presentations in schools, workshops and lectures.

The Washington Cultural Council will also entertain funding proposals from schools and youth groups through the PASS Program, a ticket subsidy program for school-aged children.

The Washington Cultural Council is part of a grass-roots network of 329 local councils that serve every city and town in the state. The program is the largest, most decentralized one of its kind in the United States. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Massachusetts

Cultural Council, which then allocates funds to each local council. Last year the Washington Council received funding requests in excess of seventeen thousand dollars and was able to award funds totaling four thousand dollars, the amount of our appropriation for 2008 from the state.

Information, guidelines, application forms and the Washington Cultural Council profile can be found at the Massachusetts Cultural Council web site:
