Gamari, Breen and Case adjust a helmet.

Police Hand Out Over 70 Helmets

It was hot and sunny for Helmet Day at the Park when Police Chief Victor Breen, Sgt. Michael Case and State Trooper James Gamari handed out over 70 bicycle helmets.  "It was a great success," says Police Chief Victor Breen.  "It far surpassed my expecta

tions.  I thought we'd be stuck with a lot of helmets."
There are a few helmets left over, and anyone who needs one should stop by Town Hall on a Monday evening to get one, says Breen.  He says he hopes to get funding next year for a program on bicycle safety.

New Life for Boxes

Police Chief's Mail Box Stolen

Cereal, cat and dog food boxes and other non-corrugated cardboard boxes are now being collected separately at the Transfer Station.  The boxes will be turned into decorative file folders by Crispina Recycled Products, which cuts designs out of the boxes, then sews the cut edges.
Boxes should be flattened without crushing the ends.

At 1:30 a.m. May 23, Howard LaPier of Washington State Road awoke to strange sounds outside.  When he turned on his outside lights he saw two men in the process of stealing his neighbor's, Police Chief Victor Breen's, mailbox.  The men took off in a car.  According to Breen, LaPier was able to provide a description of the car.
The log cabin mailbox was, says

Breen, a house-warming gift and has sentimental value to him and his wife.  He hopes that if anyone sees it--possibly discarded by the side of the road--they will return it.
He notes that there was a letter waiting to be picked up later that day in the mailbox when it was stolen.  This makes the theft a Federal offence.
